If you have any questions please refer to the 2012 tryout information sheet on this website. This will give you an idea as to what we judged by and how we came to our decision. Once again we look forward to the year ahead and want to thank you for your interest in our 2011/2012 competition team.
Congratulations,
Mrs. Tammie and Staff
I’d like to take a minute to congratulate all the girls on a job well done. The students were well behaved, cordial to one another and willing to help each other. That made us very proud of them!
The competition tryouts were based on overall performance, energy level, showmanship, ability to recover quickly, and technique. 50% of the score was based on energy level and showmanship. Around 25% was based on technique and recovery, and overall performance another 25%. All students were judged on not what we knew they can do from years of having them in class but how they did on tryout day. Teachers judged them as if they had never seen them dance to be fair. Teachers did not expect anyone to know the dance completely but did expect the choreography the students knew to be at their best. Team placement in the past is not a guarantee students will be placed on the same teams. Decisions were based strictly on the percentages of requirements listed above and student’s performance during tryout. Below are explanations of what the judges were looking for and how they came to the results of the day.
Energy level: Were they energetic and did the student push to dance to the best of their ability. Did they give judges a feeling of look at me, I’m excited to be here and I’m going to entertain you! Did they show passion for what they were doing?
Showmanship: Did they smile, look like they were having a good time. Did they have facial expression? If they made a mistake what did their expression show?
Technique: Pointing toes, straight legs, arm placement, turns completed, leaps in attitude or straight as directed by teacher. Was their alignment correct, posture in place? Did they have their center?
Recovery: How quickly did they recover and what was the attitude they had when mistakes were made.
Overall performance: The entire list above. Did they come into tryouts with a good attitude; exude a desire to do their best? Did they perform half heartedly or did they push themselves and give it all they had?
If a student had a particular team they wanted on and their name is not on that list I encourage them to speak to the teachers and find out what they need to work on and try again next year. Thank you for allowing your child to tryout and we look forward to working with all the students in the year to come. Congratulations!
Alternates made the team they are listed on. They will practice as always but will have to perform before each competition to show they know the dance and be able to perform them on stage with all of the above requirements listed. Students were told in each group in advance what teachers were expecting, looking for etc. Some were called back in for a second chance if lacking in requirements the first time around.

FYI: We are going to have a preteen/teen tap team. If your child is interested in the tap team please let Mrs. Tammie know by signing up at the front desk. Information will be announced soon. Not sure how we will do with this but I’m going to give it a shot if enough interest.
